I broke my fibula and dislocated and broke my ankle(same leg) last sunday. I had surgery on monday which consisted of a plate to repair the fibula and screws in the ankle. Im now home in a cast. I know im in a cast for about 6 weeks, but what im curious about is the healing process after the cast comes off?
Hate to be ther bearer of bad news but I broke mine 2yrs ago, and the total recovery time is approx 1 year, im serious, check with your GP

I broke my fibula with displacement in my right ankle, also was wondering how long it takes to start driving again.
Your doctor can probably tell you how long everything will take. I broke mine and had surgery in Feburary, then had a cast that was half plaster and half fabric bandages for three weeks, then another six weeks in a fiberglass cast. After that I was given an air splint which I used for three weeks and then was told I didn’t have to use it anymore.
Some of your recovery will depend on how fast you as an individual will heal, what was done in the sugrery and how much of a gap in the bone your body has to fill in. If you smoke or have diabetes, you could have a longer recovery time.
As far as driving goes, you can’t drive until you’re off pain pills and that may take longer than it does to get rid of the cast. Also, your foot will stiffen up pretty bad while it’s in the cast, and may be too stiff and painful to drive with at first.
I still hurt. When I’m tired, I limp. They said the swelling would continue for up to a year, and so far it has. I can tell when it’s going to rain because it causes a really intense pain. I have metal in the leg now and temperature changes make it ache too. I hope yours recovers better than mine has.

Based on the swelling and bulge on my ankle, I would say that my ATFL is torn, but I dont know for sure. I may have to have surgery to repair it and was wondering what the approximate recovery time was.
6-8 weeks for general reattachment.
During which you will receive physical therapy for mild range of motion exercise till the site heals.
Always keep it above your heart and elevated to reduce swelling. ice down but not more than 15 min or what a doctor recommends. After that a full recovery can take 6-8 months that’s standard for any sports injure. Talk to a physical therapist and the surgeon.

I found out that i tore a ligament in my ankle and I need surgery, i was wondering if anyone knew how long the recovery time is. I’ve had knee surgery before but that was a total reconstruction of my ACL. My ankle is only partially torn. I believe the ligament is the ATFL, whatever that is.
you tore a ligament now
you had ACL (ligament) surgery in past
same time if everything goes the same along the way of your healing process… good luck!!
