Pain below ankle about an inch towards the toes, what is it and how do I treat it?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

The pain is about an inch from the ankle on the top of my foot, more towards the outside and about an inch past my ankle towards the toes. I was on my knees sitting on my feet and fell back and bent my foot backwards, at the time it didn’t hurt but as the day progressed and walked around it started to hurt. It only hurts when I wear shoes or walk on hard surfaces.

Sounds painful what you did.

I would think it is probably spained or torn ligaments. Get it checked out though because you could have fractured one of the bones in there. And if it is a torn ligament, the doctor needs to monitor that for proper healing or your foot will get messed up later!

Good luck honey!

Will i ever get over really bad ankle and knee pain? I suffer from over-pronation, caused by flat feet.?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I recently got insoles from a podiatrist. What i want to know is that if its too late. I am 37. And sometimes play basketball. But the knee and ankle pain are real bad. Will the insoles help to where i wont be in pain anymore. I am getting them for my work shoes as well.

This will help to stabilize your feet. It should take a lot of the stress off the feet and ankles. The podiatrist may also refer you to a physical therapist to have strengthening exercises done for the legs. In the long run the othotics will save your knees and that means a lot.

What shoes should I wear to Homecoming with a sprained ankle?

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

I constantly sprain my ankle. My schools Homecoming dance is coming up. I cannot wear heels due to my ankle. What would be a better, but still appropriate shoe choice? I am wearing a lime green strapless dress that hits right about my knees or a little above.

Honestly wear flats no one cares! My friend broke her foot and she wore a cast to homecoming with a short dress and no one cared!

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I am a horseback rider and I am looking for pants and stuff to wear. I was wondering if I buy chaps do I wear them with ankle boots over jeans or with ankle boots and breeches?
I am talking about the chaps that only go to your knees

jeans is fine, it is a personal preference, i personally wear tall boots and breeches, but sometimes wear jeans and tall boots.

How can I prevent ankle injury from running?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I really enjoy running, everytime I start a training programme, after about a week or so, my left ankle starts acting up, then I have to rest it for a few days, then I start running again, and it starts having problems again, so I can never progress with my running, which is extremely frustrating. It’s never my right ankle, always my left.

How can I strengthen my left ankle?

For a recurring injury like that there are a couple of things to do.

It might be that your trainers arn’t quite up to the job (perhaps old and wearing out, or the wring support for your running style) so a trip to the running shop might be handy – they can advise you about what you wear and what you might need to wear. Take your current trainers with you and if you get a competent staff member the advice is invaluable (they don’t just want to sell you trainers, if they get it right you will be back to buy your next trainers, shorts, tops….. from them so they have to give good advice)

Another problem is that you might go too hard too soon after thinking your ankle is OK. Ease back into running. For example if you ran 6 miles and then the day after the ankle went, rest like you do but the next time you go out jog say 3 easy miles. If it is OK either run the 3 miles or jog a bit further next time and slowly build back up to the 6 miles – this eases the pressure on your ankle and you are still keeping the fitness levels up.

You can do some strengthening exercises and the gym is good here (there are god council gyms and ones that do pay as you go instead of signing up for long contracts if you want). Talk to the instructor and tell him you want to strengthen your ankles. Alternatively look on the internet for good ankle strengthening exercises. You might also want to consider exercises for your calf’s, thighs and knees too – one of them out of alignment can affect your ankle. Strengthening them can bring everything into line and ease some problems.

Exercises like doing tip toes can help.

A visit to a sports physio therapist might be worth it too. If they can say whats causing the problem it could save you either a gym membership or a pair or trainers (of course it might be bad luck and you have to pay for both and the physio as well!)

What are some exercises with ankle weights that will strenghten my knee?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

I recently had a knee injury and I’ve been told by the doctor that I have weak ligaments. I’ve read somewhere that ankle weights will help. Now, I have ankle weights, but I don’t know what exercises to do. What are some exercises that I can do with leg weights (5 lbs.) that will strengthen my knees?

I would start off with leg lefts. Keeping one leg bent and the other doing the lefts (not both doing lefts at the same time). You might say how does this strengthen the knee well it really doesn’t but will strengthen the muscles around your knee which is a good dropping in point. I would start doing set of 15 and then switching legs (if both have a problem) doing two to three sets.
